Rahatgarh Waterfall

Rahatgarh Waterfall

The history of Rahatgarh Waterfall is deeply intertwined with the region's geological and cultural heritage. The waterfall, also known as Bhalkund Jalprapat, is a natural wonder that has been sculpted by the relentless flow of water over thousands of years. It is not only a visual spectacle but also a testament to the natural forces that have shaped the landscape of Madhya Pradesh. The area around the waterfall is rich in history, with the fort of Rahatgarh standing as a sentinel on the banks of the Bina River, reflecting the architectural prowess of the bygone eras. The fort's walls were constructed in the 13th century during the Paramara dynasty, and Sultan Muhammad Khan is credited with erecting the fort in the 17th century. The fort played a significant role during the 1857 Sepoy Mutiny, serving as a stronghold for rebel forces. Today, the fort stands as a historical monument, reminding visitors of the powerful history of the region.

Lakha Banjara Lake

Lakha Banjara Lake

Lakha Banjara Lake, also known as Sagar Lake, is a historic man-made lake located in the heart of Sagar city, Madhya Pradesh, India. The lake's origins are tied to the region's topography, with its construction attributed to Lakha Banjara, after whom it is named. A statue of him has been installed near Deendayal Chowk as part of recent enhancements. The lake was significantly improved and deepened during the 1900 famine at a cost of about Rs. 7,000 to address water scarcity. Overlooking the lake is the Sagar Collectorate, built in 1820 as the residence of the Governor General's Agent, which underscores the site's role in shaping the city's early colonial and administrative layout. The lake's northwestward drainage aligns with the broader district's patterns, influencing limited urban expansion in older town sections due to its presence.

Sanchi Stupa

Sanchi Stupa is one of India’s oldest and most significant Buddhist monuments, originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. The Sanchi Stupa, located on a hilltop in Sanchi Town, Madhya Pradesh, India, was commissioned by the Mauryan emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE to house relics of the Buddha and promote Buddhism. Ashoka’s wife, Devi, was from nearby Vidisha, which influenced the choice of location. The site became a major Buddhist center until the 12th century, encompassing a series of stupas, temples, monasteries, and pillars that reflect the evolution of Buddhist architecture in India.
